Consultation underway for the Northern Territory Minerals Industry Plan

The draft Northern Territory Minerals Industry Plan – Pathway to 2030 is out for public consultation until 5pm Tuesday, 14 May 2024.

The plan is built on the work of the Mineral Development Taskforce, mapping the way forward to advance development of the Territory’s mineral industry and drive achievement of a $40 billion economy by 2030.

The NT Government recognises that growth of the minerals industry needs to move beyond the traditional “dig-it-up" and “ship-it-out” practices and drive value creation through more downstream processing of locally produced minerals.

Implementation of the plan will bring significant economic benefits for Territorians, including the creation of high value jobs, training, and business opportunities.

The Northern Territory is at the forefront of the rapidly expanding industry with an abundance of critical minerals and a successful history of gold, manganese, zinc, and bauxite.

Global demand for critical minerals is projected to rapidly grow with the increasing transition to renewable energy and battery storage, along with the crucial role of these minerals in areas such as medicine and defence.

Stakeholders and interested parties are invited to view the plan and have their say on the plan at the NTG Have Your Say Website.
