Onshore sedimentary basin inventories

The Northern Territory's onshore sedimentary basins host a diverse range of demonstrated and prospective conventional and unconventional petroleum systems but remain relatively underexplored.

Spanning Proterozoic to Phanerozoic depocentres, the Northern Territory’s onshore sedimentary basins host a diverse range of conventional and unconventional petroleum systems at varying stages of exploration maturity, ranging from basins supported by extensive seismic and well coverage to frontier regions with only limited exploration data. Current onshore production is sourced from the Amadeus Basin, while the Beetaloo Sub-basin is progressing toward pilot shale gas production. Extensive areas of prospective geology across the Territory remain underexplored, including emerging plays for naturally occurring helium and hydrogen.
