The Northern Territory’s onshore petroleum industry includes conventional oil and gas production, advancing shale gas developments and emerging helium and natural hydrogen opportunities hosted within extensive sedimentary basins.
Industry activity is currently centred on conventional production from the Amadeus Basin and the appraisal and development of shale gas resources in the Beetaloo Sub-basin. While several other prospective basins have existing seismic and drilling datasets, large areas of prospective geology across the Territory remain underexplored, supporting significant long-term exploration and development potential.
