In 2018-19, mineral production in the Northern Territory (NT) was a record $4.92 billion, with most production coming from six major mines. The industry directly employs around 4,800 people and represents one of the Territory’s largest sources of own-sourced revenue.
The NT has a strong pipeline of emerging mining projects that is set to grow and diversify the sector into new commodities and regions. The NT has strengths in non-ferrous metals, critical minerals and precious metals, and is ideally placed to be a stable source of minerals to the markets of Asia. Vast areas of the Territory remain underexplored, with new geoscience data highlighting the potential of regions with no outcropping geology.
