NTGS has released First Edition 1:100 000 geological maps and explanatory notes for the Gove, Caledon and Blane Special mapsheets, delivering modern, high‑resolution geological maps of East Arnhem Land, and providing the first detailed investigation into basement geology underlying the highly prospective northern Palaeo-Mesoproterozoic McArthur Basin.
The release reflects extensive field mapping integrated with geochemistry, geochronology and geophysical reinterpretation leading to an updated stratigraphic framework, revised definition of major magmatic suites and an improved understanding of links between the stratigraphy, metamorphism, and magmatism. These products provide essential context for mineral exploration and regional assessment in an area that hosts major bauxite and manganese provinces, including the Gove deposit.
