The AGES 2024 Conference Proceedings volume contains abstracts from the technical program packed with new, high-quality, commodity diverse geoscience from industry, partners and the NTGS.
The program commenced with Ian Scrimgeour's annual overview of exploration in the NT with greenfields exploration for critical minerals driving near-record levels of expenditure across the Territory. The remaining program provoked plenty of robust discussion. Some highlights included Newmont's two talks on Oberon, highlighting its exploration story from discovery to now and the geology and prospectivity at Oberon and Tanami region more broadly. Teck presented a first principles approach to interrogating deposit models at the Teena deposit, with possible wider implications for sediment-hosted base metal prospectivity in the region. South 32 presented findings and interpretations from the recent Jessica and Carrara drilling projects in joint venture with Encounter Resources. Geoscience Australia presented the newly processed Northwest NT seismic survey, imaging the deeper basinal framework and regional scale features of the western greater McArthur Basin and northern Tanami region.
Three recent discoveries co-funded by the Geophysics and Drilling Collaboration program were also a part of the technical program. Kingsland Minerals presented Australia's largest graphite resource at Leliyn, Pine Creek, highlighting the untapped graphite potential of the Pine Creek Orogen. Transition Minerals discussed progress on their maiden regolith-hosted light rare earth element-vanadium-gallium resource in the Barkly region. GSW Resources presented the discovery of clay-hosted Callista light and heavy rare earth element deposit with work underway to understand the characteristics and recoverability of the mineralisation.
NTGS, Geoscience Australia and other key collaborators presented on a range of recent work across the Pine Creek Orogen, the greater McArthur including the Birrindudu Basin, and Amadeus Basin. The video presentations will be available soon.
