The Northern Territory has achieved its highest-ever rankings in the Fraser Institute's global survey of mining jurisdictions. The survey evaluates mining jurisdictions worldwide on a range of key criteria, with the Investment Attractiveness Index serving as the headline ranking for the survey. The Northern Territory has moved up to 6th place globally (from 14th place last year) in the Investment Attractiveness Index, which is a combined index of policy perception and mineral potential. The Territory also came 2nd out of Australian jurisdictions, after Western Australia.

A substantial highlight for the Territory was ranking 1st globally for Best Practice Mineral Potential for the first time ever. This is a measure of the perceived geological mineral potential of a jurisdiction irrespective of the policy environment.  The Territory was ranked the most geologically prospective jurisdiction globally, ahead of Western Australia (3rd), Queensland (6th) and South Australia (19th). The Territory also improved in the Policy Perception Index, which is a measure of perception of government mining policies in a jurisdiction, rising from 27th to 25th globally and is its highest rank since 2016.
