New geological map released in eastern Aileron and Irindina provinces, central Australia

Jink map

The first edition Jinka 1:100 000 geological map and explanatory notes forms the part of Resourcing the Territory's commitment to understanding the geological framework and resource potential of central Australia.

The new geological map covers the under explored eastern Aileron and Irindina provinces and follows on from the neighbouring first edition Jervois Range Special map and explanatory notes released in 2019. The area is prospective for a range of commodities, including copper, tungsten, molybdenum, and other base metals and industrial minerals.

These maps and explanatory notes are the result of new geological mapping and detailed geoscientific studies of the eastern Aileron and Irindina provinces and the Georgina and Waite basins that has resulted in a revised lithostratigraphy, and a much-improved understanding of the regional geological and tectonic framework. The new Jinka map and explanatory notes provides a detailed description of the geology and geoscientific data available for the mapsheet area and examines the implications for the larger-scale geological processes that led to the development of these highly prospective terrains.
